As a massage therapist for more than 13 years, it has been my passion to be on a continuous journey of helping others to heal their bodies from the inside and out. What led me to become so passionate about holistic healing was my frustration from hearing people's stories about being addicted to pain medications because they were told the only way to heal is to have surgery, which to many is not an option if they don’t have health insurance. In 2003, my boyfriend at the time had scoliosis; surgery was not an option, and while it was my deepest concern for his well-being, I felt compelled to learn about the human body and how we can alleviate pain in the muscles and joints. I also desired to study the human anatomy, so that I could understand where pain and disease starts from. My boyfriend was from the Philippines, and from him and his amazing mom, I learned a lot about the foods they cook and eat and their many medicinal and healing properties. I learned that depending on what dis-ease you had, there was a food or an herb that could aide in healing and curing it. I became purely and utterly fascinated with the Eastern way of life as I became enlightened to a whole new way of healing with food and home remedies. My determination to help alleviate pain from my boyfriend's scoliosis increased as I learned more about homeopathy. It’s what led me to a world of holistic knowledge and opened the door for me to my career as a Massage Therapist. This path has led me to studying multiple facets of holistic healing, from massage to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), and spiritual energetic work, such as Reiki and Crystal Healing. The avenues of learning and practicing holistic healing are perpetual and everlasting. I feel very lucky and fortunate to be here with you to share my love of healing and knowledge of what I like to call Body Wisdom.

Massage not only relaxes the muscles by relieving tension from multiple causes, but by receiving bodywork, you are also becoming more in-tune with your body which will raise your consciousness to a higher vibration allowing you to become more aware of how you treat your body and how you should take care of your health and well-being. During each session, I welcome you with compassion and empathy for whatever ails you at the moment. With an extensive background in massage and TCM I can determine which style and application of bodywork will be best suited for your body’s calling after a brief intake. With your permission, I’d like to suggest a healing ritual that you can do before and after each session in order to set the intentions for your body to heal in the highest and utmost good.

Neuromuscular Therapy

Muscles that are in spasm will be painful to the touch. The pain is caused by ischemic muscle tissue. Ischemia means the muscle is lacking proper blood flow, usually because of the muscle spasm. This creates the following undesirable process:

Because the muscle is not receiving enough blood, the muscle is also not receiving enough oxygen;

The lack of oxygen causes the muscle to produce lactic acid;

The lactic acid makes the muscle feel sore following physical activity.

After the muscle is relaxed through massage therapy, the lactic acid will be released from the muscle, and the muscle should start receiving enough blood and oxygen.

Neuromuscular therapy will feel painful at first, but the pressure of the massage should alleviate the muscle spasm. At this point, it is extremely important to communicate with the massage therapist regarding the pressure - whether the pressure is too much, too little, getting better, getting worse. The therapist should listen and respond accordingly. The massage therapy pressure should never be overly painful. In fact, most people describe the pressure as “good pain.”

Following a neuromuscular therapy massage, any soreness that presents itself should fade after 24 to 36 hours. The muscles that were tight should remain noticeably more relaxed for four to 14 days, depending on stress.
